Goal Statement
Goal Statement: The goal of the symposium is to provide state-of-the-art research and clinical information from multidisciplinary and internationally recognized faculty, with topics related to the science and practice of sport-related concussion assessment and management, as well as athlete brain health and mental health. The 2026 Symposium will feature presentations on social determinants of health and biopsychosocial outcomes related to concussion care. Topics on neurological signs of concussion, long-term outcomes in former athletes, and biomechanics of protective equipment will be addressed. Presentations will explore the utility of multidisciplinary care in treating complex concussion cases, including diagnosis and interventions for functional disorders in pediatric sport-related concussion. Additionally, participants will learn about interventions for autonomic, perceptual motor, and visual dysfunction. During the symposium, practitioners, researchers, and students will be able to expand their experience, knowledge, and skills when working with sport-related concussion.
Target Audience
Target Audience: This educational curriculum is intended to target an intermediate to advanced audience of clinicians and researchers including psychologists, neuropsychologists, physicians, athletic trainers, nurses, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists.
Learning Objectives for the Conference Program
After completion of the activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the training, professional experiences, and professional relationships that help to establish a career focused on sports neuropsychology.
- Evaluate the roles of sports neuropsychology on multidisciplinary teams to inform clinical care, program development, and education.
- Identify two visual dysfunctions that can occur following concussion.
- Explain one strategy for describing chronic traumatic encephalopathy from an evidence-based perspective with coaches, parents and athletes.
- Identify three key areas that are essential to children’s concussion care.
- Apply two evidence-based assessment strategies to improve concussion care across populations.
- Describe how functional neurological disorder (FND) can present after pediatric concussion.
- Analyze three ways in which cannabis use alters brain function and describe how these changes may affect cognitive and physical performance.
- Explain the role of the fencing response and other neurological signs of concussion on clinical outcomes.
- Describe how helmet performance classifications derived from laboratory testing inform concussion risk assessment and equipment selection across multiple sports and activities.
- Explain the role of autonomic nervous system dysregulation in the persistence of post-concussion symptoms and identify its implications for clinical assessment and intervention.
- Summarize two ways to effectively address interrelated factors that can impair perceptual decision-making and execution of effective motor responses to rapidly changing environmental scenarios.
- Summarize how biological, psychological, and environmental factors are important in the diagnosis and care of children and adolescents with sport-related concussion.
Level of the Activity – Intermediate to Advanced
Program CE Sponsorship

The Sports Neuropsychology Society (SNS) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Sports Neuropsychology Society maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The educational content of the full program will result in an award up to 10 CE credits. The Opening and Closing remarks, award presentations, and poster presentations are not offered for CE credits. Attendance at the full program is required to earn full CE credit.
