Goal Statement
The goal of the symposium is to provide state-of-the-art research and clinical information from multidisciplinary and internationally recognized faculty, with topics related to the science and practice of sport-related concussion assessment and management, as well as athlete brain health and mental health. The 2025 Symposium will feature presentations on equity in concussion care and developing personalized concussion interventions. Topics on long-term outcomes in former athletes, emerging biomarkers for concussion management, and biomechanics of concussion and protective equipment will be addressed. Additionally, participants will learn about large-scale concussion detection programs and mobile tools for tracking concussions. During the symposium, practitioners, researchers, and students will be able to expand their experience, knowledge, and skills when working with sport-related concussion.
Target Audience
This educational curriculum is intended to target an intermediate to advanced audience of clinicians and researchers including psychologists, neuropsychologists, physicians, athletic trainers, nurses, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists.
Learning Objectives for the Conference Program
After completion of the activity, participants should be able to:
- Evaluate the evolution of the clinician’s role in managing sport-related concussion
- Synthesize one clinical case example that demonstrates the utility of a multidisciplinary team for concussion management
- Describe brain health as it relates to culturally informed, community-engaged research
- Explain one way that modifying a normative data set for a test can influence scores and interpretation
- Name two ways to implement personalized, multidisciplinary concussion interventions
- Differentiate the neuropathology of CTE from its clinical features
- Describe the features and implementation of a mobile assessment tool for real-time tracking of concussion symptoms and activity
- Define the relationship between biomechanical metrics and concussion, and analyze how equipment can modify that relationship
- Characterize the long-term cognitive and neurobehavioral function of older former professional athletes and identify two influential factors
- Identify the leading diagnostic biomarkers in mTBI and their potential implementation into clinical practice.
- Describe an expanded set of candidate biomarkers and application of the reliable change approach to blood biomarkers in concussion
- Identify one program implemented in the NFL to increase concussion detection
- Recognize the role of sleep and mental health in concussion care and evaluate current evidence on the integration of wearable technologies in monitoring and managing recovery
Level of the Activity – Intermediate to Advanced
Program CE Sponsorship
The Sports Neuropsychology Society (SNS) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Sports Neuropsychology Society maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The educational content of the full program will result in an award up to 10 CE credits. The Opening and Closing remarks, award presentations, and poster presentations are not offered for CE credits. Attendance at the full program is required to earn full CE credit.
